Mamdani Launches Public Portal With 170,000 Pages of 9/11 Records

As the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York City approaches, Mayor Zohran Mamdani has launched a portal giving the public access to about 170,000 pages of documents related to 9/11.The new portal was announced Tuesday morning at a press conference that was also attended by longtime advocate Jon Stewart and others involved in the yearslong legal effort to obtain the records. In June, the mayor allocated $34.2 million from the city’s $125.8 billion fiscal year 2027 budget to create and maintain the portal.The shared documents, many of which have never been released, look into the city's investigation into air quality in Lower Manhattan following the attacks on the World Trade Center. Some of the pages were reportedly found in 68 boxes stashed in a city office, which advocates argue had been kept away from the public for years.
