Mindset Care raises $13 million to streamline disability benefit applications

Mindset Care, a platform that streamlines the application process for Social Security disability benefits for people with mental illnesses and their caregivers, secured $13 million in funding.

Science Inc. led the round, with participation from Tubbs Ventures, Wellington Management, XYZ, LiveEdge Capital and Enable Ventures.

The company was launched from Science Inc.’s startup studio.

WHAT IT DOES

By utilizing AI-driven solutions and a team of disability attorneys and representatives, Mindset Care aims to streamline the application process and reduce application times from weeks to less than an hour. 

Its community outreach teams operate in diverse environments, including homeless shelters, jails, veteran organizations, food drives and rehab facilities, and they identify and assist potential applicants.

The company will deploy the funding to expand its partnerships with community and large-scale organizations, including local mental health nonprofits, government agencies and homeless shelters. 

The expansion aims to support prospective claimants and address the growing demand for disability assistance. 

"As a caregiver for an incarcerated loved one who struggles with their mental health, I experienced firsthand how strenuous and complicated the process can be for securing disability benefits," Darren Webb, cofounder and CEO of Mindset Care, said in a statement.

"Mindset Care is a distillation of everything I’ve learned, channeled into a platform that streamlines the process for caregivers and individuals, helping them secure the money and benefits they are entitled to receive."

The Social Security disability benefits application process can be daunting. 

According to the Social Security Administration, the average response time for the SSA to reach a decision after you apply for SSDI benefits is three to five months, but this time period could be extended to up to eight months. 

The length of time depends on several factors, including the amount of evidence provided with the application and whether the SSA needs more records. Some people may only wait a couple of months, while others may wait a year or more.
